This hop variety is a cross between the hop variety Fuggle and a male hop plant. This species originates from a American cultivation program that started in 1956 with the collection of seeds. Researchers at Oregon State University then crossed several species. The hops were marketed from 1971 onwards. The name refers to the Cascade Range, a mountain range that runs through the state Oregon
